PERSONAL SPACES FOR SENSITIVE PEOPLE
When you feel overwhelmed or dysregulated, everyday inputs such as harsh light, background noise or visual clutter can feel harder to tolerate. A sanctuary offers a personal place to pause with more control over the surroundings. The aim is comfort and a manageable sensory environment, shaped around the person who uses it.
There is no single calming style. Some people prefer a simple monochromatic room; others feel at home with plants, familiar treasures or soft woven layers. We begin with your preferences and access needs, then choose the elements that help your space feel welcoming.
Control glare and brightness with shaded lamps, dimming and daylight options.
Reduce unwanted background sound and echo with appropriate soft furnishings and acoustic materials.
Give belongings a place, simplify crowded areas and choose a clear focal point.
Choose seating and fabrics by your sensory preferences, rather than assuming every soft texture feels good.
Plan clear routes, reachable belongings and comfortable resting positions around your access needs.
Keep meaningful objects and build a space you can adjust as your needs change.
These are design choices for everyday comfort and decompression, not medical treatment or a promise to cure ADHD, trauma or another condition. Read sensory-environment guidance.
CASTING · PERSONAL ROOM UPGRADES
Does your space leave you feeling overwhelmed instead of rested? We’re seeking five highly sensitive individuals in Safety Harbor, Clearwater, Dunedin, and Tampa Bay for filmed, small-room sanctuary transformations with intuitive empath Oriah Mirza.
This project centers sensitive people who need somewhere to decompress, recharge, and feel comfortable in their everyday lives.
Oriah Mirza is an intuitive empath, sanctuary designer, working artist, mother of five, Editor-in-Chief of Chakra Cozy Magazine, and a trauma life coach with more than 25 years of experience. Her work brings together thoughtful design, sensory comfort, reclaimed materials, and a deeply personal understanding of what it means to need a peaceful place to land.
Your sanctuary will reflect your personality, sensory preferences, access needs, and everyday life.
We can consider bedrooms, living rooms, spare rooms, offices, children’s rooms, kitchens, and—with a limited scope—bathrooms.
The goal is to create a personal sanctuary where you can rest and decompress through thoughtful changes to layout, textures, lighting, and decor.
See Before & After Design ExamplesWe’re working with a modest budget and will use reclaimed and recycled materials, including items you already own and would like incorporated into your room.
This is redecoration of an existing room or corner, with no major construction. Some elements may be nailed or glued to walls; you must be comfortable with those changes, which will be described in the participant release. Decor and furnishings are intended to be removable, although wall fixings or adhesives may leave marks.
A self-contained, movable water feature will likely be included where appropriate, except in children’s rooms and monochromatic rooms. It will not require a permanent plumbing installation. You keep the furnishings and decor provided for your sanctuary.
We’re filming a pitch trailer for a TV show, rather than an episode scheduled for broadcast. This project will not be aired as a television episode.
We can help clear and rearrange ordinary rooms. You must have somewhere to store furniture being removed—such as a couch, table, or bed.
Pets must be safely secured away from the crew and filming area so everyone can move efficiently. Please mention any service-animal requirements when applying so we can plan access appropriately.
